Sister Amanda
Let me introduce you to Sister Amanda. She is a Franciscan Sister of the TOR (Third Order Regular) of the Penance of the Sorrowful Mother.
Right away, I wanted to know about Sister's decision to become a nun. I found that, like Father Chris, Sister believes that God put it on her heart. She said, "I was not fulfilled in my life, so I prayed, then God led me to become a Sister."
Mondays are Sister Amanda's day at BA's Epiphany. She works hard assisting our team-members, making ordered drinks, and working in the kitchen. Her positive personality and strong work ethic lift everyone up!
Of course I had to ask my famous question: what's your fave part of BA's? Can anyone guess her answer? Yes! You are correct- the Team-Members!!! I mean, at this point, I feel it should just be implied.
Sister Amanda grew up in rural Missouri where her family (with four siblings- three sisters and a brother) remain. Coming to a city like Pittsburgh was a big change, but I bet, once she gets adjusted, she'll love it! She recently moved into a house in the South Side with four other Sisters. They are having fun decorating and have room for a chapel. How amazing! Praying in a Chapel in your own house would be wonderful.
Sister Amanda is a movie fan. Her favorite movies are Frozen and The Parent Trap. Both of these are wonderful fun. It makes me smile to imagine the Sisters having 'movie night' in their new house.
Sister Amanda's hobbies include cooking and baking. I wonder if she makes delicious treats for 'movie night'? I also wonder if Sister is willing to share some of those yummy treats.
Hiking and traveling are parts of life that Sister loves. The idea of getting some good exercise while exploring God's beautiful world invigorates her. Speaking of our beautiful world, Sister went to Wyoming this past July and was impressed with the stunning beauty. I went out west a few times and I can still remember the natural glory! I bet she had a great time!
Sister wants to travel more. She'd love see more of the US AND go to France. He choice of France is motivated by her wanting to learn more (and more) about French Saints. Coincidentally, I just went to Paris, and it was amazing! I would go back in a heartbeat!
Sister Amanda was particularly excited when she spoke of God. She said, "God is very merciful and loving. He has a plan for each of us." She added, "We want people to come join us, and to know that God loves us more than we love God." These words really affected me.
We are so thankful to have Sister Amanda (and all the Sisters from TOR Franciscans of the Penance of the Sorrowful Mother) helping out here at Brother Andre's. We are Blessed.
