In early June, I attended a morning Dance Party! It had everything: music, mood, and happy participants!
The music was my absolute favorite part. Like many people. music is a huge part of my life. Sometimes it allows me to escape, to think, to consider, and to understand . Other times, it's my background to 'happy'! Music is a solid and constant joy to me.
At this Dance Party, I got to co-DJ with Scott Huffmyer (manager extraordinaire and 'Huff' to me). His Spotify was his go-to music source, so we played oldies, Disney, and modern pop. I loved playing some of my all-time faves: 'I Can't Wait to be King'(Lion King) and 'Work This Out' (High School Musical II). We also played songs from my very favorite (OFTEN mentioned) band--One Direction. He played what I consider their best song --'Best Song Ever'. "We danced all night to the best song ever" is the song's line and image that I love. We also played Emily's favorite 'Mama Mia' to see the smile on her face--and it was a beautiful smile.
The perfect 'just dance' mood was created by a disco ball's spritely dancing color beams. Many of the participants were pre-school age children holding light sticks to punctuate their dance moves (and to have fun).
Along with their light sticks, I noticed the littlest participants came to dance and TO BE SEEN! There were princesses who glittered, astronauts in space suits, and casually-dressed dancers (often shoeless). All were smiling, talking and moving to the music.
Overall, it was a happy, musical time. There will be another Dance Party at Assumption soon. (We'll let you know when on our Facebook page). I'm going.
